Artist's Statement

I consider myself an artistic technologist whose work has a number of directions. Since I was a child, playing with sticks and rubber bands up until now with more elaborate machines, I have always been tinkering on some project. The digital imagery came later in life and offered an outlet to the ideas in my head along the lines of magical realism.

I have been working with image editing software for over 10 years, but it was not until the last 5 that I came to really enjoy manipulating photos in a surrealistic style as a way to depart from the graphic design work that I was too familiar with. Subtle opposites are an underlying theme in my digital manipulations. A harmonious blend of opposing qualities or characteristics. Some examples in my works would be large and small blended together, or durable and fragile.

My most recent body of artwork captures my fascination with how machines work and my ongoing desire to create. In my most recent exhibit, a number of machines that range from simplistic to very complex were on display. These are composed in a way for the viewer to appreciate their performance/process and the created product (if any) is merely a byproduct of the performance.
